Return to the Desert

It was a good trip in Minnesota.  We had lovely visits with family & friends and successful doctors appointments with specialists at the University of Minnesota.  The GI specialist we saw reviewed his medical records, current symptoms, and did an exam and then shared his recommendations.  First and foremost, he said nothing is wrong with his weight.  However he did say that it sounds like Ash has some GI things going on (he suspects continuing reflux, a food allergy, and possible gluten sensitivity).  Because of Asher's history of airway complications, he is not a patient they would follow symptomatically (e.g. remove the reflux med and see what his symptoms do, or try an elimination diet and see how he feels).  He will need procedures done to reliably and comprehensively evaluate these concerns.  We will likely schedule for 1-2 months from now and he will have a 24 hour probe (to look for reflux) followed by an endoscopy.  Both Ben and I hate that he needs to go through another round of this, but we also met with his surgeon from March and she said doing these things is a "no brainer".  That it needs to be done.  So while we are disappointed that he will be hospitalized and under anesthesia again, we are both hugely relieved to hand over the reins to physicians who are competent and confident and know what is best for Asher.

 Back in Albuquerque...

 Checking out garden.

I had a nice little care package waiting for me when I got back (thank you Steph!).

Someone missed his Allie...

....and his daddy.
