Waiting for Tomorrow

It's starting to feel like a broken record, saying that I am anxiously awaiting a doctors appointment.

Tomorrow we have Asher's swallow study at the UNM Children's Hospital.  He will drink and eat food of different thicknesses and consistencies that has barium added to it, and they will perform video imaging to see how his swallow mechanism reacts to each.  After they have done that, they will do an upper GI where they look down his throat with a camera.  They will not sedate him, and we don't know yet if I will be able to be in there with him, so it could be very interesting.

Hopefully we get results soon because Asher has not been able to eat any finger foods or 'real' food leading up to this appointment.  I keep joking that if that stays the rule, I'm putting his birthday cake in a blender.

My son will have birthday cake when he turns 1 dammit. :)

While his pneumonia seems to have resolved, and he is doing really well being off all meds (except for the remainder of his antibiotic course), the underlying issue has started showing itself more over the past 48 hours.  He develops a wet wheeze throughout the day, which seems to happen more frequently after he eats.  We do try nebulizer treatments twice a day per the recommendation of his new pediatrician, Dr. Good, who could hear wheezing in his chest when he listened to him on Monday.  They seem to help for about 10 minutes, then it returns.  We have an appointment with pediatric pulmonology next Wednesday, so we should get more answers then (?).   Dr. Good believes that Asher has reactive airway, and that there is no underlying issue.  His treatment recommendation would be to start an inhaled steroid (I believe Pulmocort was what he mentioned) in addition to nebulizer treatments if the swallow study and pulmonology appointments turn up nothing.

So we will just have to wait and see I guess.  The good news (...by good I mean I could jump up and down cheering and clapping) is that Asher has not coughed since he left the hospital, and he is sleeping through the night again.

We went to Valentine's Day Party this morning.  Luckily there was yogurt and applesauce so Asher didn't feel too left out about not getting to eat cupcakes, although he was staring at them longingly.

Hanging out with his buddy Liam.
