We got to Hawaii and one of the first things I said to Ben was, “Wait, I agreed to go whale watching?”. Open body of water, tiny boat, Sullivan on a tiny boat in open water.... felt like disaster. Add to it, Oahu is experiencing a rather historical “swell” as we speak which means the waves are BIG. So last night I spent about two hours in a ball running the scenario over in my head where the boat capsized and I had to figure out how to save my children. Ben finally convinced me to take a lorazepam (thanks Mal!) after he was unable to convince me that we would live to tell the tale of whale watching. Well folks, we did it. And it was worth it. Because we saw dolphins and a seal, but most amazingly, for about an hour we tailed this mama and her baby. Humpback whales are amazing animals and it was so special to see this with Ben and the boys. Also about half the boat puked on the way out to sea- it was like riding the bull on class 5 rapids.
